The way they talk.
The way their hand fits inside yours.
The way they lean into you without thinking.
Those very ordinary things
turn out to be the ones you wish you could go back to.
Because one day, you will long to remember how it felt when they were little enough to still need your help with the stuck zipper on their coat.
My work is about holding onto that feeling, without turning your family photo session into a performance.
Hi! My name is Svitlana.
I'm a Ukrainian transplant living in the US.
I'm also a preschool teacher, photographer, maker, and an observer of overlooked things.
I spend a lot of my time around children, which means I know the important stuff is rarely announced. It’s usually happening sideways, under the table, while someone is refusing socks or carrying a stick with alarming seriousness.
My photography is about that way of seeing things.
In that space between trying and being (when everyone forgets the camera a little) true stories unfold.
Something shifts when no one is trying too hard.
